• «արաբ». հնագոյն ժամանակնե-րից սկսած այս անունով էին կոչւում այն Արաբները, որոնք բնակւում էին Ասորիքի և Եփրատի միջև գտնուած եռանկիւնու մէջ. այս երկիրը կոչւում էր յն. Ἀραβία ή ἐეημος, գործածուած է նաև Փիւնիկէի և Քանանացոց համար (տե՛ս Կանայեան, Արրտ. 1913 493-6 և Կոգեան ՀԱ 1922, 542). հմմտ Բ. մակ. ժբ. 10. իբրև ածական՝ գործածւում էր «արագավազ» նշանակութեամբ՝ ձիու և ուղտի համար. ինչպ. տաճիկ ձի Բուզ. դ. 47, էջ 134, տաճիկ ուղտ Բուզ. դ. 54, էջ 141 երիվարս տաճիկս Սեբ. Գ. ի (հմմտ. արա. բական ձի, արաբ ձի)։ Աւելի ուշ արաբները մահմետական դառնալով՝ տաճիկ բառն էլ սկսաւ նշանակել «իսլամ», որից և տաճկաց-նել «մահմետական դարձնել» Գնձ.։ Երբ Սել-ճուքները արշաւելով արևմուտք, մտան Մի-ջագետք, խառնուելով տեղացի արաբների հետ, ստացան մեր մէջ տաճիկ անունը. հմմտ. «Ի հիւսիսոյ եղեն շարժեալ ազգ, որ կոչմամբ թուրք անուանեալ, ի 24 ցեղս որո-շեալ, իշխանութիւն տաճկաց առեալ, թեպէտ յաղանդ նոցին խմորեալ» Վահր. ոտ. էջ 183. «Իսկ արաբացիքն որ մինչև ցայն վայր տա-ճիկք կոչէին ... խառնեցան ի թուրքն և եռեն ազգ մի վասն համակրօնութեան իւրեանց և միմեանց անուամբ կոչին» Միխ. աս. էջ 407-8։ Սելճուքներից յետոյ նոյն անունը ժառանգեցին նրանց ցեղակից Օսմանցիք։ Սելճուքների բարբարոսութեան աատճառաւ տաճիկ դարձաւ նաև ած. «մարդու նեղու-թիւն տուող, չարչարող»» իմաստով Երզն. մտթ. 125 ա, որ մինչև անգամ Քրիստոսի բերանն է դրւում (տե՛ս իմ Հյ. նոր բառեր հին մատ. Ա. 172)։ Նոր բառեր են տաճկե-րէն, տաճկահայ, տաճկաբան, տաճկախօս, տաճկահայերէն, տաճկահպատակ, տաճկա-լեր ևն։
